Potty training

The optimal time to begin toilet training (potty training) is typically between 18 to 24 months of age. However, the most suitable window falls between 24 to 30 months. Around 18 to 24 months, children start recognizing when their diapers are wet and can distinguish between urine and feces. By 24 months, they can express discomfort related to needing to use the toilet. Additionally, at this stage, children can stand, walk, and sit independently, easily find the toilet, follow parental instructions, and express their desire to use the restroom. Their bladder and bowel muscles develop, allowing them to hold urine and feces for extended periods. They begin imitating adults’ bathroom behaviors and show interest in toilet training. It’s essential to avoid starting training too early (before 18 months) or using forceful methods, as this can have negative psychological effects and lead to resistance. Parents should be aware of their child’s normal developmental process and choose an appropriate training time for both parent and child’s benefit.
